The best news!
What can one say? What is the very best thing that can happen? Well for me - CLARA SUSAN. My wonderful children had a baby girl just one week ago today - in fact, just about EXACTLY one week ago today. My daughter timed it perfectly - we left our home last Sunday at 9 am and arrived at the hospital at 11 am - Clara arrived at 11:50 - PERFECT! We didn't get to see her though until around 4 in the afternoon since Clara had to come into the world via C-Section. OK OK - that worked for us - we were able to leave the hospital and go out for lunch - always important for me not to miss my meals. I don't think that my daughter was so thrilled to have a C-Section - but in the end that was going to be the safest way for Clara's entrance into the world.
Our son-in-law was fantastic - kept us in tune with text messages - so we weren't out there not knowing what was going on - I love him for that - he was/is GREAT!
Nothing can really prepare you for the moment that your own daughter gives birth to her own daughter - there are no words - and I am probably one of the luckiest moms/grams in the world. My son-in-law is a teacher and they decided that it would be best for him to work on the days that she would be in the hospital so that he could take his time off when they are home. Ahhhh - how good for me - I was lucky enough to spend the first two nights and days in the hospital with "my girls". There is no better gift in the world that could have been given to me. I offered nothing but moral support and love - but you know what - I believe it was very much appreciated. I won't get mushier than that - but I do want to share this beautiful little sweet baby with you.
When I arrived back home I immediately started to go through the things that I kept tucked away for the last 30 some odd years - things that were so special from my own babies. Here is one of them - these beautiful little dolls that were on my daughter's carriage - made from the most beautiful french fabric. I also found some beautiful newborn hand smocked nighties from my daughters' layettes along with a special quilt that was given to her when she was born by her auntie. A sweater that was knit by my mother along with two amazing sweaters and two beautiful blankets that my sister made for her when she was born. Things that I treasured and hopefully my daughter will treasure too. It would be great if some of these things will be passed on to her sister and to their children's children.
