Dog's Day in New York

Yes, for us it was the day for the DOGS! Took a walk down to the Dog Park on Fifth Avenue and 27th Street - a lovely park. There's a restaurant (of sorts) where you wait on line (or is it IN line) for your food and then try to find a table. It was a little chilly for that - but the line was long nevertheless. We bought our lunch at COSI and sat on a bench in the sunshine! Perfect. Beanie begs for her share and Stoli just runs around at the end of her leash barking at any dog that goes by.

After lunch we went into the Doggy Park and off come the leashes.
It's really nice to see all of the dogs and their owners. Everyone loves their dog so much - you can just see it.

Besides my little girls, my favorite today was FRIDA, a black miniature Schnauzer from Montana.
Yes, she was sent from Montana - the young man whose dog it is found her online - he said that she was the runt of the litter. The cutest and prettiest little thing and she kept jumping up so high on her owner.

I really love most of the dogs!
There was plenty of humping going on - it's up to the owner to stop their dog from this behavior and always with so many apologies - but after all, what can one expect with so many gorgeous girls out there! There were also some minor attacks - even Stoli got attacked by another dog today - unusual - but the owner grabbed her dog and removed it from the park immediately!

Obviously Saturday is a big day in the Dog Park - nice that people take one of the two days that they have off to take their dogs out for a good time. It's really nice to see how everyone watches over their dog and is happy to see their dogs romping and playing. I think that anyone who is lucky enough to have a dog to love can't ask for anything more than that!

Tonight we're having dinner with friends - they have a dog too - but their dog is not friendly to other dogs - only gets on with "people" - so Bean and Stoli will stay home and rest!

Tomorrow we'll take them to Tiffany & Co - I have to pick up some things that I brought in for polishing. A nice long walk in the busy city. I'll take lots of photos of the holiday decorations - the city is really pretty this time of the year. I love it!

RIght outside of the dog park are these two trees that have been painted silver - so beautiful!

I really do love New York!

It's the best - busy, yes - hectic, yes - but fabulous! Even the fact that the "girls" can ride on the train with us - right on the seat - what can be better than that?

Living in the country - I really don't see that many people who are really "dressed" - even though we sell fabulous clothing in the store - you don't really see people in the Price Chopper wearing these great things! In fact sometimes I wonder when I look at some people - did they look in the mirror before they left the house? Is it just so unimportant to them? That could be!

But when you're in New York City - you see lots of wonderfully dressed people (not everyone, but lots and lots). This morning when we took the dogs out for their morning walk I saw one young woman - she looked fabulous! Fabulous Aviator sunglasses - black slim skirt, black sweater, black jacket (ah, my favorite colors) and great looking tall black boots. Long black straight hair - she just looked soooo good! (and young!) So simple - so good. The temptation to tell this to someone overwhelms me! But no - I can't - you just can't run up to people and tell this to them! What would they think? I guess some people might enjoy it - but others will just think I'm crazy!

Of course the woman wearing the full length mink coat (down to her ankles!) - now what was she thinking when she left the house this morning? That it was bitter cold! Well, it wasn't and it seems to me that she was just pushing it! It's not time for full length mink coats yet! Winter coats are definitely out though - I was wearing a great RUNDHOLZ leather jacket - I love it! But mink down to the ankles - I don't think so! I guess it must be new and she just couldn't wait.

Early in the day we went over to Grand Central for lunch. We like to go there because we can take the dogs with us - lots of choices for lunch and lots of people! It's amazing how many people go there just for lunch - very busy at that hour. So we had to sit down with another couple and share the table with them as it was just so busy. That is what can be so wonderful about New York City! They were from England and their guide book suggested having lunch at Grand Central - isn't that great? They were so nice - we had a lovely conversation - of course I told them to get right over to Bergdorf Goodman - they shouldn't miss that. They had lots of interesting things planned. We took them over to the corners by The Oyster Bar (the best restaurant!) and showed them how you can whisper to one another from corner to corner - they loved that! A New York City secret!

Another thing that I loved was this MANSION FOR SALE
Now that is something I have never seen before - well, it really isn't a MANSION - but certainly the next best thing in New York City - a 5 story Town House! Now that is something that I would really love! No hope for that though! But I did enjoy the sign.

I stopped off at Chanel on Madison Avenue and when I walked in this nice looking man - extremely well dressed, came over to me and asked me if I would like some water, a soda or anything else to drink! Now that has NEVER EVER happened before - to walk into a store and be greeted by someone who wants to give you a drink! He said his name was "DOUG", the store manager and he is happy to help me in any way! So yes, I took some water - I thought that was awfully nice.

I walked downtown (no cabs and I didn't have a Metro Card for the bus) and when I came to CARTIER I couldn't believe how pretty it looked. The building is covered with scaffolding (seems like so many buildings in the city are covered with scaffolding! But they did a fabulous job with theirs!
I thought that it seems a little early for all of the Christmas decorations - Saks Fifth Avenue was busy getting their windows ready - they were covered, but you could see that they were being worked on - BARNEYS was packed - you'd think they were giving things away (they weren't!) and Chanel was filled with women buying bags, shoes and jewelry. All I hear is how bad business is - yet New York City was bustling and all of those people must be buying something!

The rest of the day included a trip to the dog park and a trip to Tiffany to drop off some jewelry that I will sell on ebay. For a nominal charge they polish it up and put it in their wonderful TIFFANY pouch. We had a lovely dinner out and then went to the Don McLean concert at Town Hall!

All very good and fun.

Looking forward to another great day in the city! I really do love New York!

Remember Don McLean? The audience loved him! He was so good!

Nice to have a few days off!

Thanks Jill from the UK

One of the things that I really love about ebay is the contact between people you have never met and will never meet.

But there they are - ready to offer an opinion or help you out when you ask a question. I love it!

Ebay is good for me because I love clothing and I love people - it brings them all together.

I have a wonderful scarf from Hermes up for auction - item #1101861267242

Jacques Endel HORSE Auth HERMES SILK Scarf/Shawl 35"

The scarf says
"
Couvertures et tenues de Jour pour l'ecurie, l'attente et la presentation" on it and I went to the internet for a transliteration of that - this is what I got:
Coverages and held by Day for the ecurie, wait and the presentation

But my friend who speaks fluent french says "it has something to do with a coverage, or a blanket or a poncho that you might wear for the presentation of your horse or perhaps for the horse to wear when it is being presented"

So I asked any ebayer if they knew what it meant and today I got this response:

Hi, in the UK we would call this a prize for "Best turned out". It is awarded to the groom whose horse is considered to have been prepared to the highest standards of grooming and presentation at an equine event. As it says "due jour", these must have been awarded every day over a series of days with different recipient each day. Couverture is French for "horserug". I own this scarf in a different color and have yet to discover which particular event they were awarded at - let me know if you find out!

So - THANK YOU Jill in the UK - I really appreciate it.

GOOD Ebay ADVICE

Passing on some information that should be helpful to all people buying on ebay:
FOUND IT ON SOMEONE'S SITE

Be very careful of:

  • Items that are very cheap. If they are too good to be true, IT IS REALLY TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE. .

  1. Sellers with very low feedback.

  1. Sellers with no experience in selling designer items or having items from unknown/dubious source.

  1. Sellers with private/hidden feedbacks. Got something to hide?

  1. Sellers with pictures copied from eLuxury or other websites or pictures with white boxes covering the original name of seller.

  1. Sellers with many designer items using the same pictures

  1. Sellers with sob stories to share for selling bags very cheaply.
