It doesn't matter how SMART you think you are!

One of the things about my ebay selling is that the women who I get things from have only the very best things money can buy! They are always dressed to the 9's (whatever that means-but an expression I seem to have grown up with) and I see the things that they buy at the store - only the best! They do not buy fakes - I don't think they would even know where to find them! They certainly are not buying handbags under the bridge in NYC! These women shop in the very best stores and treat themselves to the finest goodies. So a favorite customer gave me a nice little pile of goodies - 2 Hermes bags, 7 Hermes scarves and two other cashmere scarves - one a Burberry and one from Johnston's Scotland. The Hermes bags were old, used but very salable - both of them went for fair prices and immediately in Buy It Now sales. Good for everyone - the owner was thrilled that anyone wanted her "old" things! But that is what is so great about ebay - for someone else, her "old" things become "new" and treasured - isn't that great???!!! I think so. One of the Hermes scarves is going off to Canada tomorrow - the woman who bought it for $285 is thrilled to have found it. A good price - a brand new scarf and something she has been searching for. Great! Everyone is happy. But the other day I received this email regarding the pretty PINK 100% Cashmere fringed scarf from Burberry!

I am very sorry to bother you, but are you sure your Burberry scarf is genuine. I think I read on some authenticity tutorials that the label for Burberry always reads BURBERRY (in all caps). Please advise. Thanks!

So I immediately went to my listing and checked it out - OH MY G-D - I couldn't believe my eyes - this is what I saw:
DUH!

When did Burberry put an "S" on the end of their name? NEVER! I totally missed it - can you imagine how I felt?
The interesting thing about this is that years ago when I was new to ebay, I bought myself a wonderful silk Burberry scarf in their classic colors. $35 - how can you go wrong? The scarf came and was quite beautiful! Wonderful quality silk, etc. etc. - until I saw the "S" on Burberry! I was taken and you know - I deserved it - you MUST BE SO CAREFUL! Now I don't believe for one minute that this woman who gave me this scarf to sell knew it was not "genuine" or "authentic" - she was probably given this scarf as a gift! She would NEVER EVER buy a fake - I know the things that she wears (jewelry included) and it is all the very best and of course totally REAL! But the funny thing is - the scarf is beautiful - the quality is great and someone would be happy to wear it - take off that silly tag with the "S" and you've got a very pretty PINK CASHMERE scarf for the winter. The color is gorgeous and it ties beautifully. What's in a name? Does it really make a difference in the end whether it is REAL or not? YES, I know that it does when selling on ebay. I'll mention it to the gal - I'm sure she won't want it back and I'll see if my daughter wants the scarf - she is so PRETTY IN PINK!

Most of all I THANK my friendly ebayer - she really helped me out - I certainly DO NOT want to be selling anything that is not AUTHENTIC!

Charming!

I have always loved CHARM bracelets! When I was a young girl I had a gold charm bracelet - a very special thing - I don't remember other jewelry that I might have had - a watch maybe, a pin - jewelry was not a big thing. But I did have a gold charm bracelet - with an assortment of charms. A gold diploma with a ruby in it (my birthstone) was a gift from my best friend Rita (we're still friends), a gold basket with flowers, a gift from my sister on the day of her wedding. Gold bells with pearls, a gold heart and of course - the most important - the gold July calendar charm - my birthday! I loved that bracelet!

At some point I gave the treasured bracelet to my older daughter! I'm sure that she was really thrilled when she had to tell me that she lost it!

I've more than made up for it - I love charms! I've attached them to my necklace - a dog, a bird, and a pearl - I get so many compliments - people love my necklace with the charms. My key chain is an LV chain of charms and I have a fabulous Hermes silver bird charm that I move from handbag to handbag - the charms give me a smile everyday.

Now I've discovered the ULTIMATE charm bracelet. The two companies that seem to be the biggest are TROLL and PANDORA (both are fun sites because you can actually build your own bracelet) - there are other companies that make these charms and lots of sites online to buy these charms. The thing to remember though is that Pandora charms fit on Troll bracelets, but Troll charms do NOT work on Pandora bracelets. That would make Troll the way to go for the bracelet but both companies make great charms.

So I have two bracelets - one that tells MY STORY - my girls, my son-in-law, my dogs, my husband and the other bracelet is all the things that I love - going to NYC, gifts, cows, sheep, pigs, handbags, teddy bears, ducks, pearls and the grandchildren I am planning on.

A great book - the charm of charms by jade albert and ki hackney. I found one sitting on a table at the Juicy store in New York. What a great book.

Charms are fun - they make you feel good and can add a little brightness to your day.

In the end I bought a good deal of my charms on ebay. There are so many people selling these charms and often you can find things that are not even available in the stores anymore as they have been retired or discontinued. It was really fun putting the bracelets together.

Check out my site on ebay......not as many things listed right now as I have been away buying for the store the last two weeks - but I will be getting lots of things listed and will catch up with myself this week.

Let's Not Lose Perspective

It's hard not to lose perspective sometimes - what's really important and what's not! I received an email yesterday from someone telling me that she did not receive the item purchased from me. Let's start with the fact that the item was won and paid for about a week later. That's OK - we communicated with one another and it was not convenient for her to pay immediately - fine - as long as the seller is made aware of the circumstances - it's just fine. When the item was paid for it was immediately shipped - so it was a little annoying when just a few days later I get an email suggesting that "when I pay for something - I expect to get it!" - I mean gee - I was nice enough about waiting for payment - but I did send it out right away. So I checked the shipping information only to find that the item was immediately delivered to the address. So I emailed this party and gave her this information suggesting that she check with her post office.

Today I come home and get another email - this time - a threat regarding feedback! I got so upset! You know - I work hard at this - how many people will it take to ruin my hard earned reputation? Not many! AND the item was delivered 4 days ago! So I emailed the information again - twice! But this time I decided to find the gal's phone number and call her.

Was she this mean and threatening person? No - not at all - couldn't have been nicer. And really - let's keep all of this in perspective. A pair of pants - not even very expensive. This gal has too many unpleasant things on her plate and I guess her frustration was coming out over the fact that she did not receive this item.

She will have to go to her post office with the shipping information - afterall - it shows that the item was delivered. It would have had to be paid for - I hope I won't have to put in a claim for the pants (everything goes insured) - what a pain!

I feel terrible when things like this happen. Such a waste of everyone's time and energy - and this gal doesn't have the time or the energy.

This is when ebay is not as much fun as it should be.
Would someone really leave you negative feedback even though there is definite proof that you shipped the item? That seems pretty unpleasant. I guess I have had things like this happen in the past - you know - those packages that went to Europe around xmas time! Bummer - it can happen!

I hope that she will go to the post office and find that the package is there.
